Crewe Hall Wedding Photographer
I’ve been photographing weddings at Crewe Hall for years, it’s one of my most-shot venues and it’s not hard to see why. Jacobean grandeur, a proper chapel, and grounds that photograph well whatever the season.
Crewe Hall is about 10 minutes from my house.
I love it, not just because it’s practically on my doorstep, but because it’s so darn beautiful and romantic.

A few weddings, a few seasons
About the venue
Crewe Hall was built between 1615 and 1636 for Sir Randolph Crewe, a lawyer who rose to become Lord Chief Justice. It’s a Grade I listed building, and the architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner called it one of the two finest Jacobean houses in Cheshire.
A serious fire gutted much of the interior in January 1866. The restoration, completed in 1870, was led by E. M. Barry, son of the architect behind the Palace of Westminster, and he was deliberate about recovering Sir Randolph’s original design rather than just modernising it. That’s the version standing today: ornate ceilings, grand pillars, and the kind of rooms that do a lot of the work in a photo before you’ve even started.
It stayed a family seat until 1936, then passed through other uses before becoming the hotel and wedding venue it is now, set in 8 acres of grounds.
Getting ready
There’s a dedicated bride’s getting ready space next to the bridal suite, no particular name for it, but it’s where most of the getting-ready shots happen. No dedicated space for the groom’s side.
Ceremony spots
Six licensed rooms, from the Chapel (up to 60 guests, the most intimate) up to the Continental Suite (up to 360). The Long Gallery, Drawing Room, Great Library and Carved Parlour sit in between. The Drawing Room’s painted, gilded ceiling is a genuine standout.
Portraits
The tree-lined driveway, the terrace and the grounds all get used. The Chapel’s ornate ceiling and the Hall of Pillars are the standout indoor backdrops, and the stone lions by the front steps make a dramatic dusk portrait spot.
Confetti
The back steps work well, guests can keep their heads up rather than watching their footing, better photos as a result.
Reception
The Continental Suite is the biggest option for a big evening party, with the Long Gallery, Drawing Room and Great Library as smaller alternatives depending on numbers. Couples can also stay over, and the spa and health club are there the next day.
Good to know
500 free on-site parking spaces, including EV charging bays, so parking is never a scramble. On-site accommodation with family and accessible rooms if guests want to stay.
