Georgia and Joe’s Colshaw Hall Wedding

Georgia and Joe got married at Colshaw Hall on the 22nd of December, three days before Christmas Day and about as festive as a wedding day gets. Eighty six of them for the day, another hundred and ninety once the evening guests piled in, and every room in the place dressed with Christmas trees and fairy lights that needed absolutely no help from me to look good on camera. It’s exactly the kind of day a Colshaw Hall wedding photographer hopes for.

Colshaw Hall works brilliantly for a winter wedding. Bright blue skies in the morning, proper Cheshire countryside all around it, then the whole place turns warm and golden the second the sun starts to drop. A three day countdown to Christmas meant the trees were already up and the fairy lights already on, so the whole building did a lot of the decorating for me. Here is how the day went.

Getting ready

Georgia’s room was full of laughter all morning, some of it loud, some of it a lot quieter.

Then the veil went in, and everything about the morning changed pace.

Joe’s morning happened in The Den, a good ten minutes across the grounds and a completely different kind of quiet. A letter was waiting for him there, alongside his cologne, read before anyone else was let in the room.

Then Joe walked the length of the room past every one of them, five minutes before he needed to be anywhere near the ceremony.

The ceremony

Rain came in for the walk over, so guests made their way in under umbrellas, coats pulled tight against the December chill.

Two o’clock, live piano from @theweddingpianist filling the room, and Georgia and Joe stood together to exchange their vows.

Back down the aisle they went, guests on their feet to see them off.

The wedding party

Golden hour portraits

A little time to themselves next, walking the grounds together while everyone else headed inside for drinks.

The light did something properly lovely for the last part of the afternoon, gold right across the front of the hall. It’s the light every Colshaw Hall wedding photographer dreams of.

By the time we got back outside for one last look, the sky had turned that deep blue you only really get in December, the whole building lit up against it.

Family and friends

Family formals happened back at the hall, everyone gathered in front of the Christmas display for a couple of group shots.

Somebody else had their phone out too, getting their own version of the moment.

Drinks reception in full swing after that, fairy lights everywhere you looked and glasses topped up by @barretts_event_catering as fast as people could empty them.

The evening

Speeches ran through mid afternoon and the meal followed not long after, the whole reception room glowing under a giant Mr and Mrs sign by the time everyone sat down.

Sparklers came out once it was properly dark, and Georgia and Joe ran the length of them together.

The party carried on from there. Pints of something dark and plenty of laughing between two of the guests.

And no shortage of props once the Christmas tree corner turned into an unofficial photo booth for the evening.

The first dance and the party
